Who these terms cover
Charl Gottschalk operates usethisdamnthing.com and stacks.usethisdamnthing.com from South Africa. In these terms, “we” means Charl Gottschalk and “you” means the person using either website.
These terms govern use of the websites and stack registry. ThisDamnThing software and individual stacks have their own licences. These terms do not replace those licences or take away rights they grant you.
Using the websites
You may browse the documentation and public stack listings without an account. We do not charge for using these websites or collect payments through them.
Do not use the websites to break the law, impersonate someone, access another person’s account, distribute malicious content, or disrupt the service. Automated access to the public registry is allowed; do not use it to overload the service or bypass access controls.
Accounts
Where a feature requires sign-in, you are responsible for the information you provide and for keeping access to your account secure. Contact us if you suspect someone has used it without permission.
GitHub sign-in on ThisDamnThing Stacks uses essential authentication cookies during your browser session. If you block these cookies, you can still browse public pages, but sign-in and account features will not work. Our cookie information explains what they store and how to remove them. Signing in does not give consent to advertising or analytics cookies.
ThisDamnThing accounts are planned. Any additional account terms and privacy information will be available before those accounts launch.
Stack submissions
Submit only a release you own or are authorised to publish. You must have the right to share its code, documentation, name and other material. Describe its capabilities and dependencies accurately, including what it reads, writes, runs or sends.
You keep ownership of your work. By submitting a stack, you allow us to inspect the submitted release and display its listing information, author attribution and review status as part of the registry. The stack’s own licence governs use of its contents.
Submitting a release does not guarantee approval or publication. We may reject or remove a listing for security concerns, inaccurate disclosures, rights violations or misuse. Contact us if you believe a decision is mistaken.
What a review means
A stack review applies to the exact release identified in the listing. It is not a guarantee that the stack is free from defects, safe in every environment, or suitable for your work.
Read the stack’s disclosures and licence before installing it. Review the permissions and executable hooks you approve, and keep backups of work you cannot afford to lose.
Software and external services
Links to GitHub, agent providers and other services take you to services operated by others. Their terms and privacy policies apply there. Your use of a third-party service is governed by your agreement with that provider.
ThisDamnThing’s local workspace runs on your device. Using these websites does not give us access to your local brain, project files or agent conversations.
Availability and responsibility
Both websites are hosted on Vercel. Their availability also depends on Vercel’s infrastructure and the other services they use, including Supabase and GitHub.
We may update, suspend or retire website features. We do not promise uninterrupted availability or that every page or listing will always be accurate. Please report errors so we can investigate them.
To the extent permitted by law, the websites and registry are provided as available, without warranties about their fitness for a particular purpose. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that the law does not allow us to exclude, or limits mandatory consumer rights.
Your personal information
Our privacy notice explains the personal information handled in connection with the websites, how it is used, and your rights under POPIA and, where applicable, GDPR. Using the websites does not amount to consent to unrelated processing.
Applicable law and changes
South African law governs these terms. Any mandatory protections and rights to bring proceedings that apply where you live remain available, including rights under GDPR where it applies.
We will post updated terms here and change the date above. Changes apply prospectively. Where a material change affects an account or requires notice or agreement by law, we will provide that notice or seek that agreement.
